St. Brigid's Millers Point: History The first teachers were Mr. and Mrs. Hayes. Statistics of 1836 indicate that there were 76 boys and 45 girls that year. Since that time, several Religious Congregations have been associated with St. Brigid's school. The Christian Brothers ran St. Brigid's between 1843 and 1847. The Sisters of Charity were involved in St. Brigid's from 1840 to 1858 in Religious Instruction, Singing and Needlework. The Josephite Sisters ran St. Brigid's from 1880 - 1901. The Mercy Sisters conducted the school from 1901 until its closure in 1992. From the beginning, St. Brigid's was used regularly as a place of Catholic worship.
